Go

a Jesus thought...
Father I thank You that You have heard Me. And I know that You always hear Me. (John 11:41)

a Godly thought...
It's in the engagement with not-yet-Christians that we regularly adjust our language and its idioms, our practices, our empases, and our worship life. We need to be regularly swept by incoming new Christians. (p86 Frost & Hirsch)

a leading thought...
Good leaders make their mark. And a mark of a good leader is loyal followers. (p23 Court)

a Dave thought...
I once heard a preacher say that two thirds of God is GO. The classic example of GO in scripture is in the great commission from Matthew 28. If the the main reason we exist as a church is to go then sending should be something we value enormously.
If this is so we need to start measuring how many we send and how many go rather than who stays and prop up our Sunday figures so we look like we are not declining. So is the healthiest church one that has 400 attend every week and sends a couple out a year, or a church of a hundred that sends ten people out each year? We always tend to measure in church what we value most. So we value big and staying by measuring attendance rather than small and sending by measuring departures. So if the Great Commission is the real test of church growth lets value departures over arrivals.

Just a thought.

Practice what you preach (or think) you don't seemed to have GOne very far from the comforts of middle class Melbourne.

Dear Anonymous,

I think it's great that you have an opinion on everything...HOWEVER, I don't think it's great that you don't know your name.

I can understand your point of view...but if you are not willing to say it with your name attached, then maybe you shouldn't be saying it at all.

That's it.

Dave,

Good thoughts today. I agree with what you are saying but I also agree that we need to stop talking about it...and just get out and do it!

Hey Princess Heather,

Leave the Anonymous blogger alone - it seems he likes sitting in his own little world cruising blogs across cyberspace.

I don't want to know who he (she?) is, it would take all the fun out of guessing who it might be!

Dave has sent out heaps of people! Surely that has value and backs up what the Lieutenant says. Without Dave the attendance at Box Hill would probably be higher but for his empowering leadership and willingness to let people GO.

Hey Dave, nice one :-) nothing like creating some controversy, i like it.
For me it's about fruit. It's not about whether we send or not, but what we send them with. We often measure our success by the fact that we've sent, but if we've fail to function as a healthy body, and therefore failed to produce disciples that bear fruit that lasts, when we send them, we only set them up to fail. Jesus produced an abundnce of lasting (still) fruit with only 12.
